Sitrin STARS To Host Wheelchair Curling Clinics with Help from Reeve Grant

Marc DePerno, director of the Sitrin STARS adaptive sports program, and members of the Sitrin STARS curling team will have the opportunity to promote wheelchair curling in other areas of the United States thanks to the approval of a $15,200 Quality of Life-Actively Achieving Grant through the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. DePerno serves as USA Wheelchair Curling Director of Outreach and Development and applied for the grant on behalf of the US Curling Association.

“The funds will be used to support the national wheelchair curling program’s initiative to provide increased opportunities for individuals with disabilities to engage in wheelchair curling,” said Marc DePerno. Specifically, the grant will be used to defray travel and hotel costs for staff, coaches, and members of the United States Wheelchair Curling Paralympic Team, all members of the Sitrin STARS program. The team will attend fourcurling clinics, and offer travel stipends for new curlers to attend the clinics. Additionally, the grant will support the purchase of programmatic equipment and stipends to off-set curling club dues. The grant was funded through a cooperative agreement with the United States Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.

Several regions are being considered to host one of the four clinics, including Illinois, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Cape Cod. For more information about Wheelchair Curling or the Sitrin STARS Program, contact Marc DePerno at (315) 737-2459.
