For the past six weeks, local women have been making positive changes in their lives. They’ve been walking, spinning, taking aerobics classes on land and in the water, and learning from health experts about ways to incorporate better eating habits and exercise routines into their daily lives.
They are doing so through the Total Health Challenge, a free eight-week program designed to motivate individuals to make healthier choices, provide education on health and fitness, and introduce different exercise methods. In partnership with the Sitrin Health Care Center and the American Heart Association, the Total Health Challenge was created to fit into the busy lifestyles of individuals, allowing them time to get healthier, to feel better about themselves, and to help prevent heart disease. The Challenge is also a continued effort toward the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women mission.
More than 30 women are participating in this pilot program, which is held on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Local resident Rosemarie Grimaldi finds it is making a positive difference in her life. “It’s a long time coming, and is not only beneficial to my health, but convenient for my busy work schedule,” said Grimaldi. “I also enjoy the diversity of the program, and camaraderie with others.”
The media is invited to attend this week’s session on Wednesday, June 3, from 5:30–7 p.m. at the Sitrin Medical Rehabilitation Center. Local yoga instructor Stephanie VanSavage will provide an hour of Kundalini yoga, which emphasizes breathing, stretching, and meditation. Participants will be happy to provide interviews to media.
