To further expand Camp Sitrin to both children and adults of all abilities, the Sitrin Health Care Center today dedicated a handicapped-accessible restroom facility. The restroom also includes a changing area, lockers, and handicapped- accessible showers. Funding for this new building was made possible through an $80,000 grant from The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc.
"Currently, there are limited opportunities locally for individuals with disabilities to participate in the great outdoors,” said Rosemary Bonacci, Vice President of Communications & Development. “However, the new handicapped-accessible restroom facility at Camp Sitrin will ensure that individuals with disabilities have the best opportunity to enjoy all of the amenities the camp has to offer.”
Bonacci credited The Community Foundation for understanding the sensitive needs of people with disabilities, and for aiding in renovations to the property so that it will be accessible to all individuals.
This grant, from The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. was made possible by generous donors since 1952. For more than half a century, The Community Foundation has been connecting people who care to causes that matter.
Camp Sitrin, a 142-acre property located on Graffenburg Road in the Town of Frankfort, includes a 10-acre lake, pavilions for picnics, accessible docks, nature trail, footbridge, and sports fields. Camp Sitrin also hosts a summer day camp for children ages 6-14.
