Popular Youth Fishing Derby To Take Place at Camp Sitrin
29 June 2010
New Hartford -The Central New York (CNY) Youth Fishing Educators Youth Fishing Derby will be held Sunday, July 18, 2010 from 10 am until 2 pm, at Camp Sitrin on Graffenburg Road in Frankfort. The event, co-sponsored by the Sitrin Health Care Center, is free for all children 15 years of age and younger. Children are required to be accompanied by a parent or other adult.
This youth fishing derby is dedicated to the memory of Dr. John F. Millett, who was Chairman of the Kiwanis “Take a Kid Fishing Day” at Graffenburg Reservoir from 1984-1996. He was also active in the community, especially helping area youth experience success in positive ways.
Registration for the fishing derby will take place at Camp Sitrin on the day of the event. Participants will need to bring their own brown bag lunch and drinks. Bottled water will be available; alcohol is prohibited.
To ensure the safety of everyone and the fishery, only real worms or rubber worms on a single hook can be used for bait. No fishing with minnows, crawfish, or lures is allowed. Worms and fishing equipment will be available for anyone who does not have their own. To help maintain the high quality of the fishery in this lake, only 100% catch and release fishing will be practiced. No one will be allowed to keep any caught fish.
In addition to Sitrin and CNY Youth Fishing Educators, other sponsors are Mrs. Marge Millett, widow of Dr. Millet, and family, Bob and Kathy Morgan’s Wholesale Bait, D&D Sports, M.T.O. Lures, NYS DEC Fisheries.
Volunteers are also needed. To volunteer, or for more information, contact Cara Bulson Arcuri at (315) 737-2255 or Bill Girvan at (315) 736-5738.
