Sitrin Provides Free Hearing And Speech Screenings
Sitrin is opening its doors to the community for free hearing and speech screenings on Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22. Sitrin’s audiologist and speech-language pathologists will be offering appointments to individuals of all ages.
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) estimates that 17 percent or 36 million American adults report some degree of hearing loss. Sitrin Audiologist Dr. Kimberly Keane says children are also affected by hearing loss, and it often affects speech development. “According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), children who have trouble hearing have a more difficult time learning vocabulary and grammar than children who have normal hearing,” she said. “This deficiency in language development can lead to communication disorders, so early detection and hearing/speech screenings are important.”
