Sitrin Now Offers VitalStim Swallowing Therapy For Children!

The Sitrin Medical Rehabilitation Center is now offering VitalStim Swallowing Therapy for children. VitalStim Therapy is a specialized form of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) designed to treat many swallowing disorders through muscle retraining. According to the VitalStim web site, Sitrin Speech-Language Pathologist, Kristyn Hammond, MS, CCC-SLP is the only local therapist within a 50-mile radius to be certified to perform the new therapy.

Challenge Grant Boosts Sitrin's Development Campaign

The Sitrin Health Care Center recently received a generous grant in the amount of $75,000 from The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. and the Faxton Street Home Fund.Thisgift was a Challenge Grant awarded to Sitrin upon meeting the first million dollars of its $3 million Expanding the Comforts of Home development campaign for its current expansion project.

Sitrin STARS Will Represent USA at 2009 World Wheelchair Championships and 2010 Paralympic Games

It was a great weekend for Sitrin STARS (Success Through Adaptive Recreation and Sports) athletes as they won the gold in the U.S. Open International Wheelchair Curling Bonspiel, which was held at the Utica Curling Club.The team,comprised entirely of Sitrin STARS athletes, defeated Ottawa for the gold medal with a score of 7-2. Ottawa took home the silver, and Bradford won the bronze.
Sitrin STARS Participate In U.S. Open International Wheelchair Curling Bonspiel

Five Sitrin STARS athletes will participate in the second annual U.S. Open International Wheelchair Curling Bonspiel to be held December 5 – 7, at the Utica Curling Club, located on Clark Mills Road in Whitesboro. Six teams from Great Britain, Canada, and the United States will be competing in the international competition. The U.S. Open is the final contest that helps determine the 2009 United States Curling Team and the 2010 Paralympic Team.
Free Stress & Arthritis Presentation To Be Held At Sitrin

The Sitrin Medical Rehabilitation Center, located at 2050 Tilden Avenue in New Hartford, will offer a presentation on Stress & Arthritis on Thursday, December 11, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Dr. Joanne Joseph, psychologist, will offer coping strategies for individuals living with stress and arthritis. This program is free and open to the public.
